3) All pupils benefit from a driving education conducted within a proven framework

At the beginning of their driving lessons most pupils are greeted warmly and then the lesson begins. At the end of the lesson they are waived off with the words, "See you next lesson," ringing in their ears. At the beginning of the lesson they may be asked, "Did we do 'such and such' last lesson?" They may find themselves frequently covering the same roads for no apparent reason.

Pleasantries aside, surely the instructor should be expected to know exactly what proportion of the course has been completed, which areas of town have been visited, and the pupils proficiency at each competency. Moreover the pupil should be kept up to date on these things too. At the end of the lesson a detailed debrief should be provided informing the pupil not only of the good points of the lesson but any defficiencies and what remedial action is planned to remedy them. Only through this exchange of information can the pupil properly understand the extent of their progress throughout the course and where their next significant improvement is coming from.

The cost of providing the framework is not great but it is included in the lesson price.
