Road Signs & Road Markings

Road Signs & Road Markings are full of information

Road Signs & Road Markings are everywhere. Without Road Signs & Road Markings driving would be much more difficult

Where there seem to be too many road signs to look at it pays to remember that directional road signs are colour coded for convenience with motorway road signs (blue and white), national route road signs (green and white), and local destination road signs (black and white) conveniently being placed in order of importance on the road signs post.  National routes at the top down to local destinations at the bottom of the road signs.

Road markings too are sometimes laid in highly visible colours so that their importance stands out from the other road markings.

Road Signs & Road Markings

Road Signs & Road Markings

This relates basically to whether or nor you see and respond correctly to the various road signs that you will drive past and how well you use the information provided by the road markings as you drive.

Road Signs

As you drive you will see road signs relating to speed limit changes and direction road signs at roundabouts, fair enough, but there are many more road signs out there. The examiner will also be able to tell if you are aware that you are on a one way street. If a sharp bend in the road is sign posted and you still approach it too quickly they will mark you down for both approaching a hazard too quickly and for failing to see the road signs that forewarned you.

Road Markings

The Markings on the road are there to do more than just show you where the middle of the road is. There are different line types, some of which you may not cross. On approach to major junctions there may be different lanes with their own road markings indicating the direction that each lane of the road should be used for. Your correct lane selection and positioning is important. Road markings are an important source of information.
