Car Engine Pre-Start Checks
The Pre-Start Checks habit
Car Engine Pre-Start Checks are to be made prior to starting any car engine
Pre-start checks are essential. Pre-start checks prevent engine damage. Pre-start checks should be carried out every time. Pre-start checks are easy.
There are a lot of people out there who will leave their car in gear on purpose when they park it. Others will intentionally select first gear before leaving their car parked. If they are parked on a hill then there is some sense to this, otherwise it is unnecessary. It is possible that the gearstick may be knocked into gear by accident by a bag as you leave your vehicle. It is also possible that at some point you will have occasion to drive someone elses car. You should get into the pre-start check habit. Performing the pre-start checks removes the potential for damaging your car.
If you were to try to start the engine of any car with a gear selected the car will jump forward and immediately stall. The pre-start checks will prevent this.
These are the two important pre-start checks that need to be made before starting the engine.
- Pre-Start Checks: - Check that the handbrake is properly applied by pressing down on it - If properly applied the handbrake should withstand the presure.
- Pre-Start Checks: - Check that the gear stick is in neutral by wiggling it from side to side - If you start an engine with any gear selected the car will jump forwards.
Pre-Start Checks
The Pre-Start Checks in brief:
Demonstrate that the handbrake is properly applied by pressing down upon it and demonstrate that the gaerbox is set to neutral by wiggling the gear selector across the gearbox.
These pre-start checks are so simple and yet they can prevent damage from being caused to your engine or starter motor. You should get into the pre-start check routine as soon as possible. The pre-start checks are a habit that should last you a lifetime.
