Will you teach me to drive in my car?

We do understand why you would want us to.

This is a natural question for a pupil to ask if they have plenty of private practice available to them with a suitable passenger. Over a period of time it may happen that the instruction vehicle seems strange to them because they spend so much time behind the wheel of their practice car.

Not at first No. The reason that instructors have dual controls in their cars is that we sometimes need to use them to prevent accidents. The instructor is expected to have far better anticipation and observation skills than their pupils and use the controls to prevent potential accidents as necessary. Giving them up from the start would be ridiculous. Let your instructor know that you wish to use your own car and they will tell you when the time is right. When you are becoming more advanced and the instructor feels that the time is right then they will tell you.

Some instructors insist that they only use dual controlled cars for tuition purposes. I can understand their reasons for doing so and they are well within their rights to say it. If you wish to have lessons in your own car then you should make it clear to your instructor from the beginning.
