Independent instructors normally just use the family car don't they?
No. Independent instructors do not normally just use the family car.
The assumption that, "Independent instructors normally just use the family car" is flawed.
Please allow me to explain a little more fully.
This assumption is bandied about on the websites of driving schools which insist that their instructors all use the same vehicles for presentational purposes. They are trying to justify to their customers and instructors that forcing their instructors to work in similar vehicles, which in many cases they do not like all that much, is justified by saying that it is better.
They have a vested interest in knocking the integrity of the independents so that you will prefer their approach.
Independent driving instructors have just as much integrity as any others and it would be a foolish instructor indeed who ignored the requirements of their customers. With all good instructors the customers needs come first. When choosing a new car the independent has to consider every point for and against different vehicles for themselves. When they do make a choice it is a very well informed one. Unlike the fleet instructors who just get told what their next car will be.
A driving instructor who is happy with their vehicle will outperform one who is fed up. Would you wish to work all day every day in a car that you did not particularly like? Thought not. At Findley's driving school we allow our instructors the flexibility to choose their own vehicles.
We are quite happy to ignore the recognition aspect of a common fleet in return for a contented and better motivated team who will in turn provide better quality work for you, the paying customer!
On a personal note. From the point of view of being an independent instructor I can assure you that I am seldom home at, or for, a suitable time for the family to get any use out of my tuition vehicle what so ever.
