I am not yet seventeen. Can I apply for my provisional driving licence?
Many people seem to have heard it from their friends.
There are certain conditions under which you can hold a provisional driving licence before you are seventeen.
The youngest that you can be to learn to drive is seventeen. You can apply for your provisional driving licence before then but be aware that it will not be valid before your seventeenth birthday.
Under certain circumstances it is possible to obtain a provisional driving licence at the age of sixteen.
The following paragraph is a direct quote from the Driving Standards Agency website:-
'Currently in the UK you have to be 17 years of age to obtain a provisional licence to drive a car or ride a motorcycle (unless in receipt of a full disability allowance, when you can obtain a provisional licence at the age of 16 years)'.
