I am dyslexic. Is this a problem for you?

Dyslexia is more common than most people care to think.

I have previously taught people who have made me aware that they are dyslexic. I have not had any real problems teaching them. I have developed some very simple strategies (my favourite kind) that enable me to help them achieve their goal of a driving licence.

According to the Dyslexia institute :-

About 10% of the population have some form of dyslexia. About 4% are severely dyslexic.

They also say that:- Dyslexia usually arises from a weakness in the processing of language-based information. The effects of dyslexia can largely be overcome by the use of compensatory strategies.

Now I want to make something perfectly plain here. I am not claiming to have been specifically trained by the dislexia institute. I have not been.

As it happens though I do need people to process language based information, and I do have to develop practical compensatory strategies to overcome their difficulties.

So to answer the question. No. Teaching someone with dyslexia may be a challenge on occasion but it is never a problem.
