Do you have adaptations for the disabled?
Adaptations are often required to enable an instructor to teach physically disabled pupils to drive
It is unfortunate that at this time we do not have an instructor available who has any of the adaptations that may be required to teach the physically disabled.
It is a fact of life that the expenses incurred in kitting out a vehicle with adaptations are quite prohibitive. I have personally had conversations with relatives of disabled people who are currently taking lessons elsewhere and the times I have heard people start sentences with the words, "All that the adaptation does is.....". I have to agree that some of the adaptations do appear very simple indeed.
The fact for driving schools is that there are a set of government standards covering the manufacture of such driving aids. This I believe is a good thing because I personally do not wish to hear of an accident caused by an over keen instructor making adaptations in their garage that do not perform as they should.
Market forces see, to suggest that with a highly regulated marketplace and limited demand for goods tha manufacturers can charge what they like, and they do!
It is unfortunate but true that the prohibitive cost to compete in a limited market is the main reason why more instructors do not meet this requirement.
If Findley's driving school is ever in the position of advertising driving lessons in adapted vehicles in any of the areas that we cover then rest assured this website will trumpet that service loudly.
