Mock driving test
A Mock Driving Test can decide whether or not you are ready for the real practical driving test
This is the main reason that driving instructors like to do a mock driving test with their pupils
a mock driving test brings the following advantages: -
On a normal driving lesson you may be on approach to a roundabout where your instructor tells you to turn right taking the third exit. Before you get to the roundabout they will be talking to you about it. Either giving you information or asking you questions to make sure that you do know what you are doing while driving. Throughout the procedure your instructor will give any instructions or encouragement that they feel appropriate, and once you have completed the junction you can expect some feedback about yur driving. Either remedial action to be taken next time or a verbal pat on the back for your driving skills.
- A mock driving test: - tests your ability to perform under pressure
- A mock driving test: - tests exactly what you can remember
- A mock driving test: - tests your driving ability
- A mock driving test: - tests your ability to correct your own mistakes
- A mock driving test: - tests your forward planning ability more effectively than anything else.
On your driving test you will be told to take the third exit to the right and that is it. The examiner will then sit in silence and watch you driving. Spooky? A mock driving test will simulate these driving test conditions.
A well conducted mock driving test will be done scrupulously to driving test conditions. Your driving instructor is looking for two things primarily. Can this pupil adjust to the real driving test conditions, and, are there any gaps in their driving technique that would be markable on a real driving test? If the mock driving test flags areas that need remedial action then this driving faults must be remedied by your driving instructor before a real driving test can be taken.
Driving instructors usually like to perform at least one mock test once they feel that their pupil is sufficiently advanced. One mock driving test is sometimes sufficient if it is clear to the driving instructor concerned that their pupil is ready for their actual driving test. Usually a mock driving test will flag discrepencies in driving style that have to be remedied and another mock driving test performed. I would be suprised if a driving instructor had a need to perform more than two mock driving tests.
Your instructor is the best judge of your standard
after a mock driving test
On occasion after a mock driving test a pupil has been known to disagree with their own driving instructors judgement on their readiness for their practical driving test
If this is the case then seek a second opinion. Have a mock driving test performed by another local driving instructor. Be warned though. Your own driving instructor is usually right. Let's face it. They know your driving better than you do and they have performed enough mock driving tests to be able to judge a pupils readiness for a real driving test.
I would not advise you to book a practical driving test with one of the D.S.A driving test examiners if you fail a mock driving test with your own driving instructor. Please wait until your driving instructor says that you are ready before booking a real driving test.
At Findley's we will happily conduct a mock driving test for you if you wish for a second opinion.
