Driving lessons
Starting to learn to drive can be a daunting time
Don't worry! There is a lot to learn but,
it will be broken down into manageable steps
Giving driving lessons to beginners is the bread and butter of driving instructors everywhere. All beginners are the same in that they require a professional approach within a suitable learning environment. Beyond that the similarities cease. You then need high quality one to one tuition in a suitable training vehicle with a driving instructor who is dedicated to the task at hand.
Considerable efforts have been made by Findley's driving school to make sure that all of these requirements are provided for to levels of service that you will approve of.
Your progress will be recorded on a log sheet which you will see each lesson. The left side of the log sheet lists for you the syllabus that has to be completed before you can be seen as ready for test. The top edge of the sheet has a marking scheme so that you can see how much progress you have made in each of the different topic areas.
Everyones favourite questions are "What have I still got to learn?" and "Am I ready for my test yet?" There will be a record of the evidence for both of these available to you every lesson. You still have to learn any topic that does not have any marks against it, and you will be ready for your test when the marks in the vertical "lesson" column are consistently high enough.
All lessons are conducted on a one-to-one basis. There will be no other pupils in the car during your lesson. This leaves the full lesson hour available for meeting your requirements rather than running someone else home.
For your first lessons you will be driven to a quiet location to allow you to gain a reasonable level of car control and a grasp of the procedures of driving before we move onto roads with traffic. Your instructor has a responsibility to other road users as well as yourself and believes that it is to everyone's benefit that beginners learn a little before moving into traffic.
At the beginning of every lesson the objectives of the lesson will be discussed and if necessary a briefing given. Extensive use is made of visual aids during lesson briefings to give you every chance of understanding and retaining more information the first time around.
Initially on a new subject you will be talked through what to do completely. As your skills begin to develop the instruction will lessen accordingly. Once your driving demonstrates an understanding of, and the capability to achieve, the lesson objective a new topic will be started.
At the end of every lesson while your log sheet is being filled in you will receive feedback from your instructor as to your progress during the lesson and any weak areas that need to be improved.
The final thing to happen is to set the lesson objectives for the next lesson.
There is no need for you to wonder what is in store for you
when you come out of the house the next time!
